A Place of Joy (May )

Schools in Costa Rica reopened in February, but local in-person classes remain limited to 4 days per month. At GFS, we have reopened fully. We have been able to do this safely because of our small class size, our outdoor space and our careful adherence to COVID precautions. Students around the world have been saddened by the lack of access to teachers and the lack of socialization with their friends. When the girls are at the GFS center, they are learning, playing, sharing and developing important life skills. It is a place of friendship and joy.

We had several special events during April. Yuliana, a member of the GFS Board, provided a fantastic class about the brain. She helped the girls to understand the different functions of the right brain versus the left brain, using fun exercises. In addition, we celebrated Earth Day with activities, painting and a discussion of the importance of protecting our planet.

April also saw our official legal recognition as a non-profit association in Costa Rica, entitled Asociacion Chicas Para El Exito. Our reputation in the community is growing, with ever more families expressing interest in having their daughters join the class.

Meet our Board President

My name is Liseth, and I was born and raised in Cartago province, Costa Rica. Since I was a little girl, I felt passion for nature, conservation and travel, so I studied Tourism. I have worked in various hotels in Costa Rica. Since 2010, I have been working as the Reservation Manager and Administrator of Samasati Yoga & Wellness Retreat. I also served on the board of directors of the Costa Rican Network of Private Natural Reserves for 3 years. A few years ago, I completed a degree in teaching to combine with my studies in tourism. I subsequently taught Tourism classes for several high schools in San Jose, working with the Ministry of Public Education. I enjoy yoga, weightlifting and any outdoor activity. I have a 3-year-old boy, and I love cooking, hiking, and spending time with my family. I also love animals (I have 5 dogs, 1 cat, plus Bartolo & Josefina: the rooster & hen).
