“Into the forest I go to lose my mind and find my soul….” (Nov 2020)

After 15 years of offering our adventure, yoga and service retreats to Costa Rica, it is still hard for most participants to narrow down what their favorite thing was about the week. Asked at the farewell party on trip this month, it ranged from “the participants of the group (all like-minded souls and kindred spirits)…river rafting and zip-lining…time with the girls at our Girls for Success center…the wildlife we saw…the ambience of the forest and staying in the bungalows at nature retreat…different yoga classes…”

There are 16 girls enrolled in the foundation’s girls’ center and eight high school girls participating in the Girls for Success Club. They joined the group on the first day at Samasati Nature Retreat for two hours doing kids’ yoga in the octagon meditation hall in the heart of rainforest then participated in variety of art projects up in the open air restaurant. They left with gifts of much wanted packaged “slime” (it actually brought squeals”) and empowerment bracelets.

Daily and evening yoga classes were offered; a trip to an animal rescue center was included learning more about sloths, monkeys and other native animals; time at two beautiful beaches were highlights; shopping in two local towns is always fun especially seeing what others purchase; and zip-lining and river rafting were adventures that were chosen by many.

What was very rewarding for the foundation, too, during the week were the meetings with the local Board of Directors in Costa Rica. Evaluating building our own center continues to be a priority, hiring a computer teacher in 2020, increasing educational field trips and guest speakers coming to talk to the girls were discussed, and much more!

We hope you join us in February for our next adventure, yoga, and service trip to Costa Rica!! Call Susie Morwick, our reservations manager, at 317=544-8391. It truly is a life changing experience.
